چکیده

With knowledge representation based technologies reaching the enterprise, involving business users in modeling is more important than ever. When primary processes and business decisions are driven by models, business knowledge needs to be captured and only business users can establish whether the models created are correct. A natural language based representation of models can help business users get involved in the modeling process. We have used a representation based on natural language pattern sentences to improve business user participation in our business modeling projects. Based on the lessons learned, user interfaces have been developed that use this representation for both communicating and editing formal models.

Additional Information in Business Processes: A Pattern-Based Integration of Natural Language Artefacts

Business process modelling initiatives frequently make use of semi-formal modelling languages for depicting the business processes and their control flows. While these representations are beneficial for the analysis, simulation and automatic execution of processes, they are not necessarily the best option to communicate process knowledge required by employees to execute the process. Hence, text...

Framework for Conceptual Modeling on Natural Language Texts

The paper presents the framework for conceptual modeling which has been used in on-going project of developing fact extraction technology on textual data. The modeling technique combines the usage of conceptual graphs and Formal Concept Analysis. Conceptual graphs serve as semantic models of text sentences and the data source for formal context of concept lattice. Several ways of creating forma...

When Language Meets Language: Anti Patterns Resulting from Mixing Natural and Modeling Language

Business process modeling has become an integral part of many organizations for documenting and redesigning complex organizational operations. However, the increasing size of process model repositories calls for automated quality assurance techniques. While many aspects such as formal and structural problems are well understood, there is only a limited understanding of semantic issues caused by...

Semantic Process Modeling - Design and Implementation of an Ontology-based Representation of Business Processes

An extension of process modeling languages is designed which allows representing the semantics of model element labels which are formulated in natural language by using concepts of a formal ontology. This combination of semiformal models with formal ontologies will be characterized as semantic process modeling. The approach is exemplarily applied to the languages EPC (Event-driven Process Chain...

Semantic EPC: Enhancing Process Modeling Using Ontology Languages

In this article we describe a semantic extension of event-driven process chains, with which it is possible to specify the semantics of individual model elements as it is indicated by their label in natural language using concepts of a formal ontology. To do so, a multi-level approach was developed, which comprises an ontology level, a metadata level, as well as a model level. With the approach ...
